MBP Upgrade

I had read horror stories about how difficult it was to upgrade/replace the hard drive in the 2007 Macbook Pro, but I was not ready to buy one of the new “unibody” ones yet and figured this was an inexpensive way to scratch the itch to do so, since my existing 160GB hard drive was the only real issue that I have (I was down to only 40GB free).

I bought a new 250GB Seagate Momentus 7200.3 for $88, brought it home, cloned my old drive to the new one with SuperDuper and proceeded to carefully follow the instructions I’d found on iFixit.com.

Piece of cake. Took me less than 20 minutes.

7200 RPM is dramatically faster than the OEM 5400 RPM as well. Win, win for me.

Mind sharing where you got the 250GB Seagate Momentus 7200.3 for $88?

I’ve got a 2007 MacBook Pro as well (in no small part due to your glowing recommendation) and am always looking for ways to tweak and upgrade it as much as I can. And, yes, I love it…it has brought a word into my vocabularly I have rarely, if ever, used with Windows-based systems…FUN!!!

And thanks for the info on how you cloned and installed it! Very helpful!

BooStar — I bought it at the Software & More store in SLC (they ship as well). Here’s a direct link:
