Art as Power

We had a nice time at the annual 3-day family reunion and were happy with the weather, although yesterday it did start to creep into the 90s — which is still preferable to two years ago when it hit 107 on one day.
This is the one time of year that our extended family can get together and spend quality time without interruption. No TV, no Internet, no cell phones (for the most part).
We conversed a lot, rode the new zip-line my brother built over his pond (ok–I didn’t), ate and drank (in moderation).
Always a lot of fun and we’re already looking forward to 2010.
Even though I didn’t go this year because my honey is in Australia and it’s just not the same without him, I was able to experience Utah Gay Pride this year vicariously through Robert Kirby’s SL Tribune article:
Kirby: If you’re a prude, stay away from Pride
By Robert Kirby
Tribune ColumnistOn Sunday, I committed a grievous sin. Instead of going to church where I supposedly belong, I went to the Utah Pride Parade and hung out with gay people.
It was my first gay parade/rally. I went with Sonny, and then only because his wife Sue came along and said I could put my arm around her if I started feeling misunderstood.
We rode TRAX downtown. At every stop, more gay people got on. I was guessing, of course. Odds are that not all of the people I thought were gay actually were. I’m pretty sure about the guy in the purple leotard, though.

We both took yesterday off of work and made a four-day weekend out of this Memorial holiday. Last night we came down to Fairview to stay with my honey’s parents and extended family, who are showing up almost hourly.
We hit the annual pancake breakfast at Skyline Mountain this morning and are enjoying the mid-50s weather with hints of rain in the solidly overcast skies.
Probably heading back up to Salt Lake Sunday, so we can finish the weekend on a peaceful note.
Hello, Allison.
We spent the weekend in Fairview, Utah at my honey’s parents’. It was his Dad’s 76th birthday yesterday and all four of his full brothers and sisters were there to help celebrate. It was nice time.
The weather was alternately sunshine, rain and snow (and the occasional hail) throughout. Definitely springtime in Utah.
We got home to a houseful of cats (Reno went with us to Fairview) who were happy to see us.
Coincidentally, it was Jasper’s 1st birthday today. He and his siblings — which we saw, along with is mother in Fairview — were born on my honey’s dad’s 75th birthday last year.
